Coppice news...

Here is a detail from the watercolour which came out of the photoshopped piece I did last week. I managed to create the 'cut-up' look by using masking tape at various stages in its creation.
I have also been working on some charcoal drawings to inform my painting.

The Coppice



I have just started working on a small series of works with a Coppice theme for a mixed exhibition at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh. I am intrigued by the nature of the cutting back to stimulate copious regrowth and the fact that the wood is then used for multiple craft use such as weaving and carpentry.


I would like to echo this cutting and weaving in my artistic process. This early example is a watercolour that has been cut up and rearranged and then layered up in photoshop. I shall now use this to generate the next piece in the process...

Mussel Inn Preview

Tomorrow lunchtime sees the opening of the small but beautifully formed Christmas exhibition at Glasgow's Mussel Inn. I had a lovely day out yesterday hanging the paintings and then getting to see some of the other Christmas exhibitions on around the city's contemporary galleries.

I am getting some work ready to submit to the Cumbrian Open to be held at the Upfront Gallery near Penrith. I normally send landscapes up so this is a little different... I have also added this section of the oil bar painting to show just how luscious these paint sticks are...
