I have just heard that I am through to the next round of judging in this art competition based in Kendal, Cumbria. They had a record number of entries this year so I feel lucky to have had both of my paintings selected for the next stage.
I attended the preview weekend for this mixed Spring show at a lovely remote gallery in coastal Scotland. Do go and visit if you are anywhere near... This photograph shows some of my paintings on display plus a seagull caught on camera down at the harbour !
Just to say thanks to all those who managed to call in this weekend and support me during my Open House. It was great to get such positive feedback on my new work and have the house full of art lovers (and their willing partners!) The cats also enjoyed all the attention...
One of the most popular paintings was 'Late Sun', a little sketch I did for the large painting 'Treeline' which you can just see on the mantlepiece in the photograph below.
If anybody would like to order prints or cards of my latest work please do get in touch via my website which I shall be updating as soon as my techy son comes home for Easter!
I am lucky to live in a stunning part of the world where the coastline and the fells of South Cumbria are on my doorstep. So, join me on this visual journey as I explore and document my interaction with both the world inside and outside my studio.
Having originally trained as a graphic designer I feel that my art still shows traces of this in its strong use of composition, shape and colour, whether subtle or vibrant. Whatever subject or starting point I choose I like the work to develop and emerge from the ongoing dialogue created between myself and the emerging painting or drawing.
